Fonds consists of letters from J.C. Stanley, generally addressed to Maude, for the period January to September 1862, when Lt. Stanley was stationed at Montreal with the Grenadier Guards. Photocopy, 85 pages.

Stanley, John Constantine, 1837-1878 : Military Officer

John Constantine Stanley was a son of Edward John, second Baron Stanley of Alderly. J.C. Stanley was born on 30 September 1837 and died 23 April 1878. In 1871, he married Mary Susan Elizabeth, daughter of Keith William Stewart-Mackenzie. In 1862, Stanley was a lieutenant in the Grenadier Guards when the Guards were transferred from the United Kingdom to Montreal, for the period January to September 1862. At his death, he had attained the rank of lieutenant-colonel.

Transferred to the National Archives via its London Office in 1991.
The photocopied handwritten letters are difficult to read because of ink bleed-through which caused markings from one side of the letters to be seen on the side being read.
