The collection, 1924-1960, consists of some 1,295 files from the consular materials of Col. G.L.P. Grant-Suttie, with some material added by his successor, Vytautas Jonas Gylys. Files are not complete. About 200 files, for the letters A, C, D, and E are missing. Arranged alphabetically by family name, the files contain applications for passports, as well as passports given after Canadian naturalization. They contain requests for aid in cases of illness, for help to trace missing persons, or to fill out sponsorship papers to aid Lithuanian post-World War II Displaced Persons come to Canada, and also hold clippings and other documentation that provides insight into the personal life of individuals and into the larger Lithuanian Canadian community. The collection also includes index cards arranged in alphabetical order, which have on them information such as country and date of birth, occupation, and place of residence in Canada.

Zmuidzinas, Jonas, 1898-1989 : Dr. Jonas Zmuidzinas, a lawyer, was born in 1898. Throughout his lifetime, he was very active in the Lithuanian community in Canada. This made him a suitable person to serve as Consul General of Lithuania. The first consul of the Republic of Lithuania in Canada had been Col. G.L.P. Grant-Suttie, who had served from 1937-1949. He was followed by Vytautas Jonas Gylys, who had served from 1949-1959. Jonas Zmuidzinas took on the position after him, serving until illness in the 1990s no longer allowed him to carry on. As other consuls in his position, he advised in particular new arrivals on conditions in Canada. At the same time, he served as liaison between members of the Lithuanian community and different Canadian government and social organizations.
