Collection consists of course notes and documents kept by Gunner F.J. Thorpe, R.C.A., during training at the Military Clerks (General Duty) Course, St. Jerome, Quebec, 1944. The collection consists of a series of typical military documents (attestation form, pay record, clothing and equipment statement, service and casualty form, strength returns, minor-offence report, daily orders, war diary, courts of inquiry, etc.), correctly completed, with instructions on when, and how, these records should be used. Also included are a series of general course notes. This collection outlines the typical records produced by a regiment and the duty of the regimental and company clerks in completing the documents. With the course notes, the collection provides the background for understanding the creation and use of these military records.

Canada. Canadian Army. Military Clerks (General Duty) Course : The Military Clerk was responsible for completing and maintaining all books, documents and records of the unit. Military Clerks were to be a trained soldier who had had experience in clerical work, who was a good penman and was qualified in stenography and typing. They were to possess a "quiet and discreet disposition".
