The collection consists largely of certificates including a Wentworth Street School (Hamilton) Diploma (1908), Zealand's marks at the Royal Military College (1915), his Special War Certificate (1917), certificates of commission (1919, 1922) and service (1920, 1945) and the Engineering Institute of Canada's Associate Member Certificate (1928). There are also lists of Pigott Construction projects for which Zealand was the field engineer. It gives the project name, dates, duration, location, work done and associates. Another list gives similar data for Zealand's work on non-Pigott projects. Originals, 17 pages.

Zealand, Edward Lamport, 1898-1976 : Edward Zealand was born in Hamilton on 14 May 1898. He was educated locally and attended the Royal Military College in Kingston, 1915-1917, receiving a Special War Certificate. He was with the Royal Canadian Dragoons until 1919. Afterwards he worked for the CNR and the Ontario Department of Highways in various capacities. Zealand received his BASc. from the University of Toronto. From 1923 to 1925 he was an engineer with the Quebec Department Co. Ltd. constructing a large hydro-electry facility at Isle Maligne, Que. He then was a construction engineer with the Aluminum Company of Canada. In 1927 Zealand joined Pigott Construction Co. as a construction engineer working on projects in the Hamilton-Toronto area. During the Depression, he worked a variety of projects such as the Trans-Canada Highway in Ontario. Zealand returned to Pigott for a year and a half before enlisting in the Royal Canadian Engineers. After his discharge in 1945, he returned to Pigott where he worked on a variety of large industrial and institutional projects.

Some of his more notable projects were: St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton (1949-1950, 1960-1961); Stelco, Hamilton (1945-1949), A.V. Roe, Malton (1950-1954), the Burlington Skyway Bridge, Hamilton (1955-1958) and the McMaster University Reactor (1957-1958). Zealand retired from Pigott in early 1964. He died 26 July 1976.
