Collection consists of miscellaneous correspondence 1760-1886, collected by Montreal postal historian, Charles de Volpi (originals, 125 pages; photocopies, 8 cm). Correspondants include British officers and merchants in Canada, fur traders and 19th century public figures. Collection also includes three letters and a stampless cover, 1764-1777, from the Montreal postal history collection of Charles de Volpi (photocopies, 7 pages); a letter from John Marteilhe to Mr. Panet, dated 18 January 1773, concerning legal affairs of André and Prisque Penisson (photocopies, 2 pages); and correspondence and a stampless cover, 1678-1845, from the Montreal postal history collection of Charles de Volpi (photocopies, 27 pages).

De Volpi, Charles P., 1910- : Charles De Volpi (1910-1981), was a Montreal businessman, who held several senior corporate positions with companies involved with the paper industry. He was also the author of several books of pictorial records of major cities and regions in Ontario and Quebec and an active philatelist.

Material acquired in 1980 to 1985, from C.R. McGuire on behalf of the Canadian Postal Museum, Thomas Alexander of Kansas City, Missouri, and Sam Nickle of Calgary, Alberta.
