Smyth, Terence, 1812-1850 : Entrepreneur

Terence Smyth (fl. 1812-1850) was born in Britain. He served during the war of 1812 and settled in Merrickville where he owned a clothing works. During the construction of the Rideau Canal his business was affected by the damage done to a water mill at Merrickville and in 1836 was granted compensation for the losses he sustained. He was also one time Justice of the Peace for Johnstown.
