Fonds consists of correspondence relating chiefly to Graham's activity as American Treaty Commissioner and to various trips made to British North America in the decade after 1845. Also included is a biographical sketch of Joseph Bouchette, surveyor-general of Lower Canada (1804-1841).

Graham, J. D. (James Duncan), 1799-1865 : Fonds consists of papers which relate wholly to James Duncan Graham (1799-1865) a topographical engineer with the United States Army. Commissioned a major in the Corps of Topographical Engineers in 1838, Graham's career included survey assignments along the Texas-American and British North American-American borders. It was during an assignment on the Great Lakes that Graham discovered the existence of a lunar tide (1858-1859). Breveted a lietuenant-colonel in 1861, he was accorded the same rank in the newly formed Corps of Engineers in 1863.
