Fonds consists of Weagant's letters of orders from Bishop Jacob Mountain admitting him to the Anglican diaconate, parchment with a seal, 18 October 1812 (horizontal storage, container 2); a letter from Archibald M'Lean, Cornwall, to Weagant, advising him on his administration of the estate of the late John B. Seifredt, dated 18 July 1822; and a letter from Bishop Charles James Stewart of Quebec to [Weagant] introducing the Rev. [J.G.] B[eck], Lindsay, whom he had licensed to the cure of souls at Matilda, and discussing the vacating of the parsonage for him and his mother by the middle of June, dated 11 May 1832.

Weagant, John Gunter, ca. 1762-1835 : The Rev. John Gunter (Gunther, Guntur) Weagant (Wigandt, Wigant, Weigant, Weant) was a Hanoverian, educated at the royal university of Gottingham. He served as a Lutheran preacher under the Ministerium of Pennsylvania from 1792 until he moved to the Bay of Quinté area of Upper Canada in 1795. He was ordained to the Lutheran ministry in 1800 and, united with the New York Ministerium, pastored the Fredericksburgh, Ernestown, and Marysburgh congregations until 1808, when he accepted a call from the Williamsburgh and Osnabruck congregations.

The inability of those congregations to pay his salary eventually led him to apply to the Anglican Bishop of Quebec for support, and he was ordained deacon in the Anglican Church in 1812, and priest in 1814. This caused a split in his congregation, but he remained in the Anglican ministry at Williamsburg and also served the German speaking congregation near Cardinal in Edwardsburgh. He was buried in the cemetery at Riverside. His wife was a daughter of the Rev. J.W.S. Schwerdfeger, a former pastor of the Williamsburgh congregation.
