Letterbook copies of the correspondence sent by the various commissioners to London. This correspondence deals with a wide variety of topics related to the business operations of the Hudson's Bay Company. As well as the London correspondence, there are copies of inward and outward correspondence between the Commissioner and other Hudson's Bay Company officials.

Volumes 1-30; arranged chronologically. Each letter sent by the Commissioner to the London Secretary was given its own reference number which increased chronologically until a new inventorying system was began in 1905. Over the years the indexing varied.

MG 20 D/13/1-6 are indexed by the date and the folio number of the correspondence and contain remarks on the subject of the correspondence. MG 20 D/13/7-14 are indexed by the subject discussed in each letter. These indexes are located at the beginning of each volume. Synopses of letters for MG 20 D/13/8-9 may be found in MG 20 D/21/6. Beginning with MG 20 D/13/10, synopses of the letters sent appear at regular intervals throughout the correspodnence. The subject indexes for MG 20 D/13/17-20 are to be found in MG 20 D/22/1-5.
