Dr. Willan talks about his early schooling, his musical career in London after his formal training, why he came to Canada (he found he could not support himself in England as an organist), and the use of plain chant in the church. He is shown working with his choir at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Toronto, and at home in his garden, chatting with Hohn Coulter, librettist of Willan's radio opera DEIDRE. Now 86, Willan has composed hundreds of works: among them an opera, two symphonies, a piano concerto, a choral - orchestral Coronation Suite, and some chamber works. However, he is most remembered for his numerous compositions of liturgical music. <30mn>Language:EnglishNotes:Detailed holdings information: -
