Gibson, J. M. (John Morison), Sir, 1842-1929 : The Hon. John Morrison Gibson, born in Toronto, became a lawyer and business executive in Hamilton with interests in industry, real estate and utilities. He was provincial member for Hamilton, and lieutenant-governor of Ontario, 1908-1914. He was the first president of the Canadian Red Cross, 1896-1910 and was responsible for the 1893 Act for the prevention of cruelty to children which led to the creation of Childrens' Aid societies.
