Bergin, Darby, 1826-1896 : Dr. Darby Bergin represented Cornwall and Stormont, in the House of Commons, 1872-1874 and 1878-1896. He was born in Toronto and educated at Upper Canada College and McGill University. He practised medicine in Cornwall, Ont. and served as Examiner, Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons. He raised a volunteer militia company, 1861 and served as Surgeon General to the Force during the Northwest Rebellion, 1885. He also operated a farm with his brother, served on the Cornwall Town Council, and was president of Ontario Pacific Railway Co. See: Johnson, Directory of Parliament, pp. 39-40.
