Hunt, Thomas Sterry, 1826-1892 : Thomas Sterry Hunt was born in Norwich, Conn. and educated at Yale. He joined the Geological Survey of Canada, 1846, as chemist and mineralogist. He taught at Laval University, 1856-1862, McGill University, 1862-1868, and accepted the Geology chair at M.I.T. in 1872. He helped define the Laurentian and Huron geological systems. In 1882 he helped found the Royal Society of Canada, and became its president in 1884.
