Holmested, George Smith, b. 1841 : George Smith Holmested, born in 1841 at London, England, immigrated to Canada in 1857. He became a barrister and practised law first at Napanee and subsequently in Toronto. In 1872 he was appointed referee in Chambers, Court of Chancery, in 1876 he became registrar of the Court of Chancery, referee of titles, and inspector of titles, and in 1881 he became registrar of the Chancery Division, referee and inspector of titles, and accountant of the Supreme Court of Judicature of Ontario.
