Fonds consists of letters from Hon. Alexander Mackenzie, Sir Richard Cartwright, James Young, Hon. David Mills and Lord Dufferin, chiefly regarding the election of 1878. Also included are two letters to Hon. A. Mackenzie, one from Sir Richard Cartwright, dated 1879, and the other from Sir Sandford Fleming, dated 1881.

Buckingham, William E., 1832-1915 : William E. Buckingham, born in England, came to Canada in 1857. He was a journalist, parliamentary correspondent of the Globe, 1857-1859, editor of the Nor'Wester and other newspapers, 1859-1873, private secretary of Hon. Alexander Mackenzie, 1873-1878 , Deputy Minister of the Interior, October-November 1878. In collaboration with Sir George Ross he wrote a biography of Hon. Alexander Mackenzie, entitled The Hon. Alexander Mackenzie, His Life and Times, 1892. See: Encyclopedia Canadiana, vol.2, p. 135.
