Dewart, Herbert Hartley, b. 1861 : Herbert Hartley Dewart, born in 1861 at St. Johns, Que., received his education from Toronto University and Osgoode Hall Law School. Prior to entering politics he had been an examiner in English, Toronto University, 1886-1890, and county crown attorney for York, 1891-1904. He was first elected to the Ontario legislature in a by-election in South Toronto, 1904, was subsequently re-elected and became leader of the Liberal Opposition in the legislature in 1919 until 1922.
