The fonds consists of transcripts of the minutes of proceedings of the quarterly conferences of the Mississippi Circuit, 1831-1843, which include financial statements, 47 pages; and of the register of baptisms, in the Mississippi Circuit of the Methodist Church, 1829-1843, 21 pages.

Mississippi Circuit (Ont. : Methodist) : The Rev. William Case (1780-1855), President Elder of the Methodist Church in Upper Canada, established the Mississippi Circuit of that church in 1825. It served the Townships of Lanark, Ramsay, Pakenham, and Beckwith in Lanark County, Upper Canada. Its first circuit preacher was the Rev. Samuel Belton (ca. 1790-1861). By 1828, when the Methodist Episcopal Church in Canada separated from its parent connexion in the U.S.A., it had a membership of 51. In 1833, union with the British Wesleyan Conference made the Mississippi Circuit part of the Wesleyan Methodist Chruch in Canada. Membership was then 183 and its circuit preacher was the Rev. James Brock (fl. 1830-1877).

In the same year, the Bonchere Mission in Renfrew County was added to the Mississippi Circuit. In 1839, the Bonchere Mission was transferred to the Pembroke Circuit, and ten years later, in 1849, the name of the circuit was changed to Carleton and Pakenham. This was divided in 1854 into the Carleton Place and Pakenham congregations. In 1874, when the several Methodist connexions in Canada united to form the Methodist Church of Canada, the congregations of both villages came under the jurisdiction of that church's Montreal Conference.

Received in 1975 from Jean Steel of the North Lanark Historical Society; transcribed by Viola Reid from the original held by the United Church of Canada Archives in Toronto. The transcripts were microfilmed in 1987.
