Laflèche, L.-R. (Léo Richer), 1888-1956 : Léo Richer Laflèche, born in 1888 at Sorel, Que., served with the 22nd Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force, 1914-1919, as Captain and Major. Prior to entering politics he served as Deputy Minister of National Defence, 1932-1937, and Associate Deputy Minister of War Services, 1940-1942. He was a Member of the House of Commons, 1942-1945. During this period he served as Member of the Privy Council, 1942, and Minister of National War Services, 1942-1945. In 1945, he was appointed Canadian Ambassador to Greece, in 1949, High Commissioner of Canada in Australia, and from 1952-1955, Canadian Ambassador to Argentina.
