Fonds consists of correspondence, memoranda, reports and diaries relating to Merchant M. Mahoney's work for the Canadian War Mission, the Department of External Affairs and the Canadian Legation in Washington.

Also included in the fonds is 1 photograph, n.d., of an oil portrait of President Harding in Canada.

Biography/Administrative history:

Mahoney, Merchant Michael, 1886-1946 : Merchant Michael Mahoney, diplomat, served in Washington during the latter part of World War I. In 1918 he was transferred to the Canadian War Mission, serving as secretary, 1918-1921. He was the First Secretary of the Canadian Legation in Washington, 1927-1938, and became the legation's commercial counsellor, 1938-1945. In 1945 he was transferred to Dublin as High Commissioner.
