Goldberg, David, 1917- : David Goldberg, air force officer, barrister and solicitor, was born in Hamilton, Ontario, and was educated at Boston University and Osgoode Hall. He received his wings and commission in 1940 and served as a fighter pilot instructor at Dunnville. In 1943, he was sent overseas and posted to 416 Squadron. A month later, he was posted to 403 Squadron as a flight lieutenant. Shot down by flak over France on 8 March 1944, he evaded capture and escaped to Gibralter on 28 April 1944.

In August 1944, he was posted to 417 Squadron, the only Canadian fighter squadron in the Mediterranen theatre during World War II. He assumed command as Squadron Leader at Loretto, Italy in November. He led the 417 in support of the Jewish Brigade on one occasion. By the end of the war, he had made 234 fighter sweeps and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, 12 March 1945. After the war, he commanded 424 Squadron (Hamilton) and 16 Auxilliary Wing. He retired with the rank of group captain and received the Canadian Forces Decoration. He practices law in Hamilton.
