Fonds consists of a diary, 17 April 1883 to December 1886; documents pertaining to the incorporation of Calgary, including the petition for incorporation and other correspondence with the office of the Lieutenant-Governor of the Northwest Territories, 1884-1885; memoranda written by George Murdoch as Mayor of Calgary, 1885-1886; biographical sketch of George Murdoch; and notes from the diary.

Murdoch, George, 1850-1910 : George Murdoch was one of the first settlers of Calgary, arriving there on 13 May 1883. He was a harness maker by trade and began to do a brisk business with the Blackfoot Indians and the North West Mounted Police. He played a leading part in early community activities and was elected the first mayor of Calgary in December 1884.
