The fonds consists of the records of the journalist and editor Robert Sellar and members of his family. It includes his diaries, correspondence, and records of the Huntingdon Volunteers; business papers of his newspaper, The Gleaner; manuscripts of books, plays, articles, lectures, and other writings; scrapbooks, publications, clippings, and broadsides; and records of family members, including Alex Sellar, Thomas Sellar, James Watson, Mary Watson, Leslie Sellar, and Adam Sellar.

Sellar, Robert, 1841-1919 : Robert Sellar, journalist, editor and author, born in Scotland, came to Canada at the age of fifteen. He started working as a printer, serving for several years on the Toronto Globe, and later on the Montreal Herald. At the age of twenty-two, he came to Huntingdon and founded The Gleaner. For nearly sixty-three years, he was engaged in journalism, and for nearly fifty-seven years, he was editor of his own paper.

He was best known for his championship on the cause of the Protestant farmers of the Province of Quebec, and his writings on this subject have been widely quoted. His views are found in the Tragedy of Quebec, Quebec Loyalist, published by the Equal Rights Association of Ontario, in 1888. Among his writings are: "It was A Hundred Years Ago, The Campaign to Capture Montreal", "The Strange Adventure of a Japanese Philosopher", "Shall The Quebec System Rule Canada?", "The Tragedy of Wallace", a playscript, "The History of the County of Huntingdon", "Morven", "The True Makers of Canada", and "Gleaner Tales".
