Description:

The attempt to raise the status of artists in Canada is explored in this radio program hosted by Timothy Findley through discussion of relevant issues with art gallery owner Dorothy Cameron and artist John Gould, whose works are to be shown at the Dorothy Cameron Gallery in Toronto, Ontario from 22 November to 10 December 1963. Cameron describes her attempts to raise funds for a proposed fine arts foundry; tax legislation that affects sculptors and other artists; her gallery as a means of encouraging interest in artists from across the country; and her exhibition of Gould's work. Gould discusses his dry brush oil drawing technique, his art education, his interest in bullfighting as a subject, his preference for black and white and his use of the figure in paintings. <27mn>
