Fonds consists of original annotated scripts, signed by the censors, of Donald Fairbairn's broadcasts for the CBC Overseas Unit. The broadcasts emanated from England, France, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, and Germany and cover many aspects of the war, including the Normandy Invasion, the liberation of allied countries, the march into Germany and Berlin, and the Belsien trials. There are a few post-war broadcasts from CBC in London.

Fairbairn, Donald Bradford, 1913-ca. 1976 : Donald Bradford Fairbairn, air force officer and broadcaster, born in 1913 at Beamsville, Ont., graduated first from Normal School and later from the Ontario Agricultural College at Guelph. He subsequently became a radio commentator with stations CKOC and CFRB. From 1939-1942, he was an agricultural commentator for CBC.

In June 1942, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (R.C.A.F.) as an aircraftman and trained as a radar mechanic. Fairbairn was transferred first to Overseas Headquarters in 1944 and then to the R.C.A.F. Information Unit. In this capacity, he broadcasted for the CBC Overseas Unit. In January 1945, he was promoted to Pilot Officer. While he retired from the R.C.A.F in August 1945, Fairbairn continued to report from Europe for the CBC until the end of 1946.
