Fonds consists of correspondence that was used to write From Romance To Reality, mainly from British War brides, describing how they felt about World War II, how they met their husbands, their impressions of Canada and the difficulties they had adjusting to a new culture and environment. Also included are notes used as research material and three plates used as illustrations.

Fonds also contains photographs, 1940-1950, relating to World War II war brides; Red Cross and Salvation Army; locations in Great Britain and Canada; arrival of war brides in Halifax, N.S.; Ships, including R.M.S. Mauretania, R.M.S. Queen Elizabeth, Andes, Ile-de-France, Empress of Scotland, Voledam, R.M.S. Queen Mary, R.M.S. Aquitania, Lady Nelson, M.V. Georgic, R.M.S. Scythia, S.S. Lady Rodney; including originals, copy print, postcards, and wedding portraits.

O'Hara, Peggy, 1922- : Peggy O'Hara, author, herself a war bride, was born in Sutton Surrey, England in 1922. She married Canadian soldier Burt O'Hara in November 1943 and left for Canada from Gourock, Scotland, on the Empress of Scothland on July 23, 1944. As a result of her own experiences as a war bride Peggy O'Hara wrote From Romance to Reality, 1983, a book which documents the history of English and Dutch women who married Canadian servicemen and immigrated to Canada.
