Kern, John Henry, 1859-1952 : John Henry Kern, farmer and businessman, born in 1859 at Berlingen, Switzerland, immigrated to Canada in 1878. In 1883, he went west, first to Winnipeg and then took up land near Dunmore, in the Territories. He left the land in 1893 to enter the hotel business, at first in Moose Jaw, and later in other centres of the Canadian West.
