Fonds consists of three rough manuscript diaries, 1926-1928, kept by Geoffrey Milling describing his activities at Pangnirtung, Baffin Island, 1926-1927, at St. John's, Nfld., 1928, and the voyage he made to the Eastern Arctic aboard the Nascopie in 1928. These include Milling's observations on life at the Hudson's Bay Company post; a manuscript diary kept by Milling possibly as a journal for the Hudson's Bay Company, 1926-1927; a typescript copy of a report written by Milling for the Development Department of the Hudson's Bay Company describing sealing, whaling, and the native handicraft industries carried on at Pangnirtung during 1926-1927; and a file of business correspondence concerning the relationship between the Hudson's Bay Co. and Job Brothers Ltd., n.d., 1931-1935.

Fonds contains photographs pertaining to the Hudson's Bay Company in the N.W.T. and Newfoundland, 1926-1927, 1934.

Milling, Geoffrey, ca. 1902-1983 : Geoffrey Milling, businessman, was born in England and educated at Radley College and Oxford. In 1922, he was a member of the Merton College Spitzbergen Expedition. After employment with Lever Bros., London, 1924-1926, he joined the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC). In 1926-1927 as a member of HBC's Development Department he wintered at Pangnirtung, Baffin Island. In 1928 he was posted by the HBC to St. John's, Nfld. and in 1932 was appointed Managing Director of Job Brothers & Co. Ltd. (an old Newfoundland firm acquired by the HBC). In 1936, Milling became a Director of Bowring Brothers Ltd. and in 1948 returned to England to join the parent firm C.T. Bowring & Co. serving as Chairman of Bowring Steamship Co. and Deputy Chairman of Lloyd's Register of Shipping.
