Fonds consists of a bound typescript of memoirs, entitled "Heart and Home: A Memoir by Roma Blackburn", recounting many aspects of Roma Stewart Goodwin Blackburn's life, including her childhood in Prince Edward Island, her legal studies, P.E.I. and national politics, her business career, social reform and the League for Social Reconstruction, courtship, her marriages, childraising and other elements of family life, and her travels. Photocopy, 219 pages.

Blackburn, Roma S. (Roma Stewart), 1902-1985 : Roma Stewart was born in 1902 in Georgetown, P.E.I. Her father, James Stewart, was Premier of that province for much of the period 1923-1933. Roma Stewart was one of the first women in Canada to become a lawyer, being admitted to the bar in P.E.I. in 1926. She practised law briefly in that year, and then moved to Montreal where she entered a career in business.

Stewart married George Goodwin in 1930. The Goodwins were active in liberal/social democratic circles in Montreal during the Depression, and were members of the League for Social Reconstruction. Roma Goodwin also involved herself in the women's rights movement in Quebec in the 1940s. After 1940, the Goodwins also lived in Magog. Three years after the death of George Goodwin in 1963, Roma married William Blackburn, a professor of English at Duke University, Durham, N.C. She was again widowed in 1972.
