Fonds consists of a letter, 1935, concerning the writing of the family history, to accompany an account of the Vinebergs' ancestry, "The Early History of the Vineberg Family", written c. 1938 by Harris Vineberg. In addition, an excerpt from "History of Montreal": Chaim's Journey - 1874", by Malca H. Friedman, is available. Originals, 18 pages; photocopies, 19 pages.

Vineberg, Harris, 1855-1941 : Harris (Chaim) Vineberg (1855-1941), businessman, emigrated from Poland to Canada in 1872. Soon thereafter, he entered into various business ventures with moderate success, until he established H. Vineberg & Co., in 1892. Clothing manufactured by this Montreal firm under its "Progress" brand label, was well received by the public. Mr. Vineberg was an active member in the Montreal Jewish community and its benevolent associations, including the Baron de Hirsch Institute.
