Film compiled entirely of still photos, maps and charts of the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals on the expedition to study navigation in the Hudson Strait in 1927-1928.~Still photos show: Major N.B McLean, Department of Marine, Officer in Charge; assembling in Halifax; aerial views of Hudson Strait; RCCS staff, Lieutenant W.L. Laurie, Sergeant Major J.C. Pearsons, Sergeant H.L. Hall, and Corporal J.A.C. Bulteel, who provide air to ground communicaton from Port Burwell, Nottingham Island and Wakeham Bay. A map indicates the location of these bases. Photos of Nottingham Island show: air to ground radio equipment built by the RCCS; the ships Stanley and Larch; a Fokker Universal and a de Haviland Moth. Photos of Nottingham Island base show: the anchorage site; the shore; the Larch at anchor; the cove, dock and derrick; the landing shore; main runway; and crew.~Aircraft summer operations include: launching a Moth; assembling planes; and floats; an Eskimo (Inuit) family in traditional dress; Eskimo (Inuit) men, women and young girls; and infant being carried in the hood of her mother's parka; and young children playing with a pup. The staff and Eskimos (Inuit) are shown obtaining a supply of fresh water from ice; storing seal oil; and collecting fresh eggs from a down-filled nest. Footage of Pearson in a kayak and in his quarters; a whale; and summer conditions. Included are: a series of photos on communications equipment; igloo construction; and the interior set-up of an igloo.~Christmas 1927; winter conditions and activities such as trapping fox, spear fishing, and a polar bear hunt; and winter transportation by base tractor and dogsled. Aircraft winter operations include: preparing for flight; takeoff from cove; airstrip conditions; and shots from the air. Included are: photos of Nottingham Island spring breakup; the Eskimo (Inuit) spring camp; and the return from a walrus hunt.~Photos of Wakeham Bay: Headquarters Radio Station; Headquarters officers; men; ships; the main camp; a party; and Eskimos (Inuit).~Photos of Port Burwell show: the men and ships beached.~The film ends with the homeward journey. <22mn>
