Edwards, Richard, d. 1794 : Richard Edwards was a career officer in the Royal Navy. He attained the rank of captain by 1753 and rear-admiral by 1779. He served as commander-in-chief on the Newfoundland station and governor of the colony, 1779-1781, and was later promoted vice-admiral.
