Fonds consists of an account written by S.W. Prenties of his experiences while carrying despatches from Quebec to New York entitled "Narrative of a Shipwreck on the Island of Cape Breton in a Voyage from Quebec, 1780", p. 1-176. Also included are copies of poems, acrostics and letters, 1783-1786; and a copy of an account of Captain James Cook's death, n.d. (after 1779).

Prenties, Samuel Walter, fl. 1778-1799 : Samuel Walters Prenties (fl. 1778-1799), soldier and settler, joined the 84th Regiment, Royal Highland Emigrants in 1778 and in 1782 was promoted lieutenant. On its disbandment in 1783 he was placed on half-pay and settled at Malbaie, Lower Canada.
