Constitutional Association : The Constitutional Association was formed in Lower Canada late in 1834, by English Canadian journalists and merchants. One aim, among several, was the desire to obtain for persons of British and Irish origin, a fair and reasonable proportion of representation in the Assembly, and to assure reform in the system of the judicature and the administration of justice.

It was formed in reaction to the radical Reformers of Lower Canada, led by L.J. Papineau. The agent of the Constitutional Association in Quebec City was John Neilson, who broke with Papineau in the fall of 1834. Its prominent members included John Molson Jr. (1787-1860), John Neilson (1775-1848), and William Walker (1793-1863).
