Pownall, George, Sir, d. 1834 : Sir George Pownall was Provincial Secretary of Quebec (and Lower Canada), 1775-1809, a member of the Legislative Council from 1776 and a judge of the Court of Appeal from 1788. He was knighted in 1796 and retired to live in England in 1803.
