Manning, Premier of Alberta from 1943 to 1968. Manning speaks about the following: predictions that within 40 years travel to the moon will be common place and the future medical information will be pooled by computers; the limitless potential of Canada; the need for readjustments to changing times such as the disappearance of the small farm due to mechanization; changes in marketing and enterprise; the need to be alert to keep ahead of changing economic conditions; the evolution of our democratic society; the danger of society's self destruction; the necessity for national unity in building a strong nation; and the need to conserve Canada's natural resources. Manning says that Canada has the means to develop national unity 'or the ability to destroy it'. He extends this idea to include all free societies because their "mediating forces" (citizens) cause pressure and public demand for public needs and wants.Language:EnglishNotes:Detailed holdings information: -
