Fonds consists of journals, kept by Samuel David, that provide a daily record of the weather, dated December 1800 to June 1806. It also includes occasional entries concerning David's business interests, for example, the arrival of the post; international affairs, such as events of the Napoleonic Wars; agricultural interests, namely crops and livestock; local affairs, including marriages, deaths, fires; and some events of the Jewish calendar.

The journal was entered in three hand-made notebooks (octavo in size, 60, 96, and 144 pages in length), only two of which bear any form of title page. The journals were bound up at some later date, with David's birth and death dates stamped on the front cover.
