Consumers' Association of Canada : The Canadian Association of Consumers (C.A.C.) had its origins in 1941, when the federal government asked women's organizations from all parts of Canada, to help the war effort by maintaining price ceilings. The Canadian co-operation with the Wartime Prices and Trade Board was successful, and demonstrated the need for a permanent consumer organization. After a series of meetings sponsored by several women's organizations, such as the National Council of Women of Canada, the Federated Women's Institutes of Canada, and the Young Women's Christian Association of Consumers (C.A.C.), a voluntary, independent and non-profit association was formed "to develop a more enlightened opinion on economic affairs and consumer interests, and to express this opinion in such a way as to benefit the home, the community and the nation".

Membership was originally limited to women, but in the early 1960's, men were made eligible for membership. In 1962, the C.A.C. was incorporated under the Companies Act and its name was changed to the Consumers' Association of Canada.
