Fonds consists of the diaries of Henry St. Vincent Ames. The diaries detail his travels through Canada and the United States and describe social life in Montreal where he stayed with his relatives, the Lawford family. Included is a family tree of the Lawford family. This material is located on microfilm reels A-811 to A-812.

Ames, Henry St. Vincent, 1833-1901 : Gentleman

Henry St. Vincent Ames was born in 1833 in Britain. He travelled widely throughout North America between 1857 and 1864. He wrote extensively about his travel experiences. He discussed in detail the social life and conditions in Montreal where he was staying with relatives, the Lawlord family. In addition to his personal writings, Ames was an amateur photographer. He died in 1901.
