Arnold, Benedict, 1741-1801 : Benedict Arnold, military officer, along with Richard Montgomery, led the American expedition against Quebec, 1775-1776, and rose to the rank of Major-General in the Continental Army. In 1780, he joined the British after an abortive attempt to place West Point, the Key to the Hudson Valley, in their hands.
