British-American relations are explored in this series hosted by David Dimbleby. Using narrative, interviews and archival footage, this program explores the role of Great Britain and the United States in World War II; the relationship between British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt; and the shift in economic and political power to the United States after America developed the atomic bomb. Those interviewed include: Elliott Roosevelt, the son of the former U.S. president; Edward Bernstein, American delegate to an international conference of finance ministers in 1944 in Great Britain; Sir Frank Robert of the British Foreign Office in 1945; World War II veterans and volunteers; and wartime officials such as Sir John Colville, Private Secretary to Churchill; Sir Ian Jacob, Military Secretary to the War Cabinet; and General Albert Wedemeyer, Assistant to the U.S. Chiefs of Staff. Archival footage includes: Churchill's speech recorded by the British Broadcasting Corporation on December 26, 1941; Allied troops in Britain, French North Africa, India, Italy and South East Asia; Bob Hope entertaining troops in Great Britain during the war; Churchill, Roosevelt and U.S.S.R. Premier Joseph Stalin meeting in Yalta; and the formal surrender of Hong Kong to the British in 1945. Also noteworthy are excerpts from Movietone News films; a 1943 radio broadcast by Edward R. Murrow, CBS Correspondent; clips from a U.S. Army information film; clips from "V Attack" and "D Day at Home" and American actor Burgess Meredith advising soldiers on how to act while stationed in Britain. <60mn>
