Aircraft Accident Reports for distribution [textual record]
Date:1953-1973Reference:R184-219-0-E, RG12-C-8Type of material:Textual materialFound in:Archives / Collections and FondsItem ID number:133893Date(s):1953-1973Bilingual equivalent:Place of creation:CanadaExtent:0.60 m of textual recordsLanguage of material:EnglishScope and content:Sub-sub-series consists of a collection of Aircraft Accident Reports arranged by year and document number. The majority of these reports consist of a single page form completed per accident. The reports contain a summary of the accident investigation and findings and includes information such aircraft type, registration mark, date and time, operation, locale, latitude and longitude, weather, total hours, description of occurrence, type of injuries to crew and passengers and assigned cases of the accident.Additional information:General note:These reports are based on information determined during the accident investigation by Department of Transport personnel and their content is confined to cause-related circumstances only. The reports were prepared in a manner to be suitable for publication in order to provide guidance to the aviation community toward the prevention of future accidents. Based on a later collection of these Aircraft Accident Reports, it appears that these reports were distributed to a subscriber list of up to 8500 members of the public. In the early 1970s, because of privacy concerns, identifying information such as aircraft mark and location of accident began to be removed from the reports distributed. The distribution of formal aircraft accident investigation reports in this format ceased in late 1974.Source of title:Title is based on the contents of the sub-sub-series.Arrangement note:The physical arrangement of these reports were done by Library and Archives Canada staff. They have been organized into file folders by the year of the accident and are arranged in numerical order by serial number/report number or by alpha-numerical order by region (i.e. A=Atlantic, C=Central, O=Ontario, P=Pacific, Q=Quebec, W=Western). This number was assigned to each report by the Department of Transport. Serial numbers for aircraft accident reports involving foreign aircraft have the prefix F and are also arranged in numerical order and have been placed together at the begining of each file.Location of duplicates note:Photocopies of some of these Aircraft Accident Reports may be found in the sister sub-sub-series "Copies of summary findings from aircraft occurrence investigations."Accruals:No further accruals are expected. The final year(s) of these reports (ca. 1973-1975) are found in the library holdings of Library and Archives Canada.Related material:Later related records are found in the library holdings of Library and Archives Canada. The distributed Aircraft Accident Reports for later years, ca. 1973 to 1975, have AMICUS number 2477175 (likely the publication titled "Aircraft accidents Canada" with OCLC number 1080286131). For 1975 onwards, consult the successor serial publication entitled "Synopses of Aircraft Accidents - civil aircraft in Canada" (AMICUS number 2828768, OCLC number 1080651319).Source:GovernmentFormer archival reference no.:RG12-C-8 -
