Fonds consists of textual records, 1954-1960, ca. 1938-1966, in the following series: original correspondence, original notes, additional correspondence, microfilmed notes and notebooks (reels A-722 and A-723). Also on microfilm, reel A-1986: article by Cyriax, a review of a book, articles by A.G.E. Jones and a letter from Cyriax to Jones, 1957.

The fonds also contains photographs depicting the various expeditions of Sir John Franklin as well as portraits of expedition team members, 1818-1954.

Also included are maps, 1818-1968, pertaining primarily to the Franklin Expedition along with general maps showing various regions throughout the Arctic.

The fonds also consists of prints, n.d., related to Sir John Franklin and other Arctic expeditions, by unknown artists.

Cyriax, Richard Julius : Dr. Richard J. Cyriax, physician, author, published several articles and translations in medical journals, between 1912 and 1914. Respected also for his knowledge of Arctic exploration, his publications on the subject include "Recently Discovered Traces of the Franklin Expedition", Geographical Journal, 1951; the introduction with J.M. Wardie to John Rae's Correspondence with the Hudson's Bay Company on Arctic Exploration, 1953; Sir John Franklin's Last Arctic Expedition, 1939.

Custodial history:

The original textual records were acquired in 1968 and 1971 from A.G.E Jones of Turnbridge Wells, England. The notes and notebook were microfilmed in 1968 from originals held by the Royal Geographical Society, and in 1969 by the London Office by permission of the owner. Acquired from the London Office in 1988.
