The fonds consists of records related to the creative work of Ernest Dainty: autograph manuscripts of works by Ernest Dainty (30 titles); manuscript copies of works by Walter Buczynski, John Hole and other composers; correspondence of Gertrude Dainty concerning the work of E. Dainty; manuscript of a biography of Ernest Dainty by G. Dainty (Prelude to the Music of Ernest Dainty); photographs of Ernest Dainty, members of his family and personalities of the music community; sound recordings of works and organ recitals by Ernest Dainty.

Dainty, Ernest, 1891-1947 : Born in London, England, Ernest Dainty was ten years of age when he arrived in Toronto. He studied piano at the Toronto College of Music. He continued his musical training in Buffalo and Vienna, and then returned to Toronto where he became a theatre organist. The artist gave numerous piano and organ recitals on the radio, and held the position of organist and choirmaster in several churches. In 1929 he founded and conducted the Toronto Hebrew Male Chorus. He composed works for piano, trio and string orchestra, as well as songs, including his famous patriotic song Carry On.
