Collection consists of a short Kinetoscope film entitled The sneeze = Edison kinetoscope record of a sneeze (1894). Also included are Canadian and U.S. fiction feature films, short documentaries, travelogues, newsreels, promotional shorts and trailers. Titles include: Basin street revue, British Columbia sports, The Canadian, Halifax disaster, Isles of romance, Rhythm and blues revues, Rock 'n roll revue, Secrets of Chinatown, Through the Canadian Rockies, and Yoho!, 1910-1942; Niagara the glorious, The St. Lawrence Seaway, Montreal the romantic metropolis of French Canada, Alaska, The lure of the wild, The northern code, God's country and the law, Rescue of the Stefansson Arctic expedition, 1914-1925; The monster walks, Million dollar racket, The Headley's at home, The Duchess, Dixie Dugan, Colour wedding film, A battle for the bottle, The four R's, film trailers for Souls in pain, and Why bring that up, 1917-1942; Until they get me (1917); Halifax disaster (1917); Ford-Canadian monthly, and Start the show 1917-1920; The heart of humanity (1918); Back to God's country (1919); twenty short documentary films produced by the Canadian Motion Picture Bureau and Associated Screen News, 1920-1929; The great depression, 1929-1935; The Russian story, the Pace that kills, 1936-1943; Canadian Carnival, and Canadian lancers, 1955-1956. Also included is a promotional short for Orson Welles' aborted 1942 feature film entitled It's all true (1986); and a compilation film, produced by the NFB, entitled The children's film festival.

American Film Institute : The American Film Institute (AFI) was established in 1967 with the initial intent of preserving film in America as well as advancing research. The AFI developed into a broad program of exhibitional, historical, and educational activities funded by private and public sources. Film preservation was an important priority and the AFI archives in Washington collected and preserved films and acted as a co-ordinator for the other film archives in the United States. Today the Institute has become one of the most recognized arts organization in the United States. The AFI offers training to emerging artists in cinema, television, and the digital arts; works to preserve America's moving image heritage through collection and documentation of film and video; and recognizes the moving image as an art form through awards, film festivals and film showcases. The Institute is located in Washington D.C. and has offices in New York and Los Angeles.
