The series consists of material with subjects including Erik Nielsen, the Canada Council, territorial waters, Canadian Arctic Waters, the Law of the Sea, the development of water power resources in the Columbia Basin, the Columbia River Treaty, and reports by the International Law Commission of the United Nations and the Glassco Commission. The series includes a personal file containing newspaper clippings on events in the Northwest Territories and photocopies of historic 1851 documents pertaining to the missing expedition party led by Sir John Franklin. There is also a file containing samples of the Great Seal of Canada and the Privy Seal of the Governor General. The series contains correspondence between Gordon Robertson, as secretary of the Cabinet and responsible for federal-provincial relations, and Stuart Hodgson, Commissioner of the Northwest Territories, as well as a History of the Department of Northern Affairs and National Resources. The series also includes a file of letters congratulating R.G. Robertson on his appointment as Commissioner of the Northwest Territories, different addresses to the Council of the Northwest Territories, votes and proceedings of the sessions of the Council of the Northwest Territories, memoranda and letters, documentation on the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples, education in the Northwest territories, the Gordon Robertson Educational Center, northern provinces and the question of self-government, the creation of Nunavut, the Arctic and international relations, and access to university degrees in Nunavut. The series includes a photo of Knut Lang at his trading post in Aklavik and a recording of the memorial service held for him May 8, 1964. The series also includes farewell speeches in Inukvik upon Gordon Robertson's departure as High Commissioner of the Northwest Territories July 12, 1963.
