The transcripts and photostats include papers relating to the North American military careers of Jeffery and William Amherst, 1758-1763, the career, honours and offices of Jeffery Amherst, 1764-1798, William Pitt Amherst's appointment as Governor of Upper and Lower Canada, 1835-1836, and a genealogical chart of the Amherst Family, 1399-1857. There is a microfilm copy of the transcript of packet 11 of the papers, microfilm reel A-127. Packet 11 (121 pages) consists of letters to and from Lord Ligonier while Sir Jeffery was in America, 1758 to 1763.

This series also includes material in horizontal storage: a genealogical chart dated Jan. 15, 1708 and a brief history of the Amherst family entitled "Some Particulars of the Family Amherst", containers 12 and 13.

The Amherst Manuscripts were originally preserved in packets and this arrangement has been retained with the transcripts and photostats. See Finding Aid No. 810 - Part I, for a detailed description of volume contents.
