Fonds consists of personal papers of Campbell Tinning in the following series: Correspondence; Military Service Records; Printed material; Exhibitions.

Fonds also contains photographs including: depiction of George Campbell Tinning; Chateau de Ramezay, Montreal, Quebec; Canadian Paratroop Battallion and Canadian Officers Training School in Europe. Some photographs are by George Campbell Tinning.

Fonds consists of watercolours, drawings, prints, and sketchbooks by George Campbell Tinning and others including documentation of WWII in Canada and abroad; harvesting scenes around Lorie, Saskatchewan; interior designs from Montreal's Ritz Carleton Hotel, 1964, the Stikeman Elliot law firm offices, and room designs for the Montreal Museum Ball, 1958.

Fonds also contains two scrapbooks consisting of newspaper clippings, original sketches, Christmas cards, exhibition catalogues, photographic prints and negatives, postcards and original correspondence.

Fonds consists of one oil painting of George Campbell Tinning.

Tinning, George Campbell, 1910-1996 : George Campbell Tinning, artist, was born in Saskatoon. He studied art at Eliot O'Hara's Watercolour School in Maine and at the Art Student's League in New York. He first exhibited his work at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia in 1938 and, after moving to Montréal in 1939, exhibited with Sidney Carter's Gallery there. He joined the Canadian Society of Graphic Art and the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour, and won the Art Association of Montreal's Jessie Dow Award in 1942.

Tinning enlisted with the Canadian Army in 1942, joining the Black Watch Royal Highlanders of Canada. He was appointed an official Canadian war artist in 1943 and was posted to Halifax, before being sent overseas. After training at the Canadian Army Officers training school near Worthing, Sussex, Tinning was sent to Italy, to replace the war artists Charles Comfort and Lawren P. Harris. He stayed in Italy, producing documentary war art, until February 1945, when he went with the rest of the Canadian units to Belgium and Holland.

After the war, Tinning returned to Montréal, where he was active in commercial art, doing, among other projects, window designs for Simpson's. He became a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 1953.
