Fonds consists of a genealogy of the family of William Gooderham from 1712 to 1983 and of allied families, prepared by Frederick D'Alton Gooderham of Ottawa. Consists of newspaper clippings, obituary notices, biographical notes, extracts from periodicals, miscellaneous correspondence, genealogical charts, correspondence with the College of Arms.

Also included in fonds are photographs of family members and the Gooderham Coat of Arms, photographs of the William Hargraft family, and of George William Gooderham and Grace Martin Gooderham.

Gooderham (family) : William Gooderham (1790-1881), his brother Ezekiel and 54 family members, emigrated to York in 1832 from Scole, Norfolk County, England. William's brother-in-law, James Worts, had emigrated the previous year. William Gooderham and James Worts constructed the Gooderham & Worts Windmill in Toronto for the purpose of milling flour. In 1837, the Mill began distilling as a way to dispose of large amounts of waste grain. The distillery became an important part of the Company and was eventually taken over by Hiram Walker. Over the years, the Gooderham name became associated with many well-known institutions in Toronto.
