Fonds consists of daily journals; subject files including the 1915 diary/ledger of John Diefenbaker.

The fonds also contains photographic material depicting Allister Grosart's family album in Dublin, North Ireland, ca. 1910-1922; Allister Grosart with Irish regiment of Canada, 2nd Battalion, during World War II; his career in the Progressive Conservative Party, ca. 1948-1975; A. Grosert as representative at International Conferences in India and Europe; John Diefenbaker and his wife, ca. 1950's; photo entitled "Outward Bound".

Biography/Administrative history:

Grosart, Allister, 1906-1984 : Allister Grosart, political party organizer and Senator, was born in 1906 at Dublin, Ireland, and received his education in North China and from the University of Toronto. During World War II, he served with the Irish Regiment of Canada with the ranks of Lieutenant to Major.

From the positions of Vice-president of McKim Advertising Limited and a Progressive Conservative party membership, he ran George Drew's national leadership campaign in 1948. In the same year, he became National Director of Organization for the Party. After working for the Ontario Conservatives, he became National Director of the Progressive Conservative Association and organized their election campaigns of 1957, 1958, 1962 and 1963.

Appointed to the Senate in 1962, he served as Speaker of that body in 1979-1980. He retired from the Senate in 1981.
