Smith, Alexander, b. 1866 : Alexander Smith, born in 1866 at Saugeen, Ont., received his education from the University of Toronto, B.A. 1899, and Osgoode Hall. He became a barrister in 1893 and practised law first in Toronto and then in Ottawa. He was secretary to the Liberal Party in federal and provincial affairs, 1893-1904. He was General Organizer for the Party in the federal elections of 1896, 1900 and 1904, and in the Ontario provincial elections of 1894, 1898 and 1902. In 1904, he took up the practice of law in Ottawa and became the Legal and Constitutional Adviser to the Eastern Ontario Liberal Association.
